edapt Platform Glossary

  1. blueprintThe blueprint for a course includes the concepts that make up that course, as well as any prerequisites and outcomes mapped to these concepts. 
  2. concept: A granular grouping of information and/or skills. Learning objects in the concept are designed to teach students this information and/or skills. To learn more about concepts, click here
  3. fixed-pace: A learning path in which students move forward to the next unit at a pace defined by a series of due dates.
  4. informationalA concept that is designed purely to impart information rather than to assess knowledge.
  5. intervention: A process by which students that are struggling with a concept, including its prerequisites, are identified so that an instructor may intervene to provide those students with additional support. To learn more about intervention, click here
  6. mastery percent: The percentage of accuracy in order to reach mastery in a concept. Scoring below the mastery percent may trigger scaffolding to a prerequisite concept, if one is present.
  7. grade: The student's performance at the concept or unit level which is the same and based on the Mastery calculation of each concept. 
  8. outcome/outcome group: An outcome is a standard and/or measurement to which a concept (or other outcome) is mapped. An outcome group is a collection of such outcomes.
  9. parent outcome: An outcome that a given outcome is mapped to and generally exists on a different level of the outcome hierarchy.
  10. prerequisite: A prerequisite is a concept that serves as a foundation for another concept. A student is scaffolded to a prerequisite concept if they struggle with the original concept.
  11. readiness: A percentage value indicating how much of a course's task list has been completed. When a course's readiness reaches 100%, the course can be approved.
  12. remediation: A process by which students are automatically scaffolded to prerequisite concepts when they struggle with a concept (defined as scoring lower than the mastery percent set for a concept). To learn more about remediation, click here
  13. scaffolding: A process by which students are remediated with prerequisite concepts when struggling with a certain concept (defined as scoring lower than the mastery percent set for a concept). To learn more about scaffolding, click here
  14. self-pace: A learning path in which students are able to move to the next unit at their own pace whenever they complete the current unit.
  15. sitting time: Sitting time is an estimate of how long it takes for a student to complete a given instruction or question item.
  16. topic: A larger grouping of information than a concept. Multiple concepts may be associated with a given topic. To learn more about topics, click here
  17. unit: Within edapt.ai, a unit is a collection of concepts within a learning path. Students progress through a learning path one unit at a time.
