What are the different question types?
When creating a question item, you can indicate that this item is one of the following types:
- Self-check questions are designed to allow a student to practice and check their own knowledge.
- Pre-assessment questions are designed to measure a student's knowledge of a concept before learning and assessment begins.
- Post-assessment questions are designed to measure a student's knowledge of a concept after learning in a concept has been completed.
- Summative questions are designed to measure the sum total of student learning.
- Pilot Items are those items that need to be inserted into a learning workflow and some data for those items generated before they are added into diagnostics or assessments. In other words, these questions need to be tested.
Note that question type is also used to determine the questions that will be used in an initial diagnostic or end of unit assessment. When setting up an initial diagnostic or end of unit assessment, the type from which questions will be drawn is selected. When Weighted Average is set as the calculation method, Question types have inherited item weights in terms of mastery and grading; they do not have inherent properties of where and how they can be used.
