How does an initial diagnostic work?
There are two types of initial diagnostics:
Initial diagnostics for the entire course
Initial diagnostics for a unit
A course or unit initial diagnostic measures what a student already knows before starting a learning path or unit. It identifies which concepts the student has already mastered.
Students answer all diagnostic questions in order. If they meet or exceed the mastery percent for a concept, it's marked as "mastered," and they can skip that concept's learning workflow. If not, they'll complete the learning workflow as usual.
Note: Diagnostic performance does not affect grades unless a concept or unit is marked as mastered, in which case the diagnostic score becomes the grade for that concept or unit.
